DiaSusz are used to measure the magnetic susceptibility of powdered materials. It is a portable measuring instrument for the production and laboratory to control all magnetic inclusions in synthetic diamonds.
Magnetic Susceptibility is defined as:
THE RATIO OF THE INTENSITY OF MAGNETISM INDUCED IN A SUBSTANCE TO THE MAGNETISING FORCE OR INTENSITY OF FIELD TO WHICH IT IS SUBJECTED.
With respect to synthetic diamond the occurence of a significant value of the magnetic susceptibility is caused by residuals of magnetic catalyst inside the diamond crystals. Measuring the magnetic susceptibility provides a quick indirect method for the determination of the metal content inside the crystals. Provided that a ferromagnetic catalyst was used in diamond synthesis.
